I have been putting it off for years........but wife, kids , friends all ganged up on me and I bought a helmet last week.
Smart its not ..its quite big and white...but at least it wasnt too expensive.
The bloke in the shop thought it fitted well....I thought it was light and comfortable..........but wasnt looking forward to wearing it .

So this morning all ajusted up..I set out for a 30 mile ride and I have to say I was quite impressed..........forgot about it after a while......overall Im pleased I made the move.

With all this forced modernism I will soon be using clipless........NO just a joke THAT will never happen !!!!!!

I've needed my helmet under a handfull of times in 25yrs of riding YET when I have needed it, its been imperatively bloody life-saving ;)

I think the only full proof way of proving that ( and even then its not quite full proof) is if you werent wearing your helmet during one of the handfull of times
you said it saved your life.

If you had died you would have made your point very well in a rather zen like way !

Glad you didnt though

Now that you have a helmet that’s a good reason to go clipless

I see the link
my clipless experience didnt last long.

And yes I really could have needed a helmet.

I do ride on trails a lot about 30% of my normal circuit
I ring my bell and let walkers and dog walkers know Im coming with plenty of notice.

But when things go wrong and they do all the time... things happen fast
and I would never have time to respond and get my foot down with clipless.
I have lost count of the number of times I have had dogs turn and run into my front wheel.........and some pedestrians are almost as bad.

But my main reason is I suffer from claustrophobia of the feet " I hate the feeling of being trapped and not being able to move my feet around ajusting position over the course of a ride.

On top of this this my plates of meat are size 13 and just feel better on
large V12 type platform pedals.

Yes its probably less efficient......good..I can do with the excercise.

The helmet I can live with.............but I have 2 brand new sets of clipless
just about the go on ebay

Don't be stupid beachcaster...

The last crash I had was like this:

View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUgb1...eature=channel

(I know the riders whom I was with seemed to like the idea I had a helmet on and 99% of those who did have one on liked the idea that a 'demonstration' had taken place why they were wearing one)

Now, Beach, you seriously cannot tell me that some kind of damage WOULD HAVE OCCURED if I hadn't had my helmet on !

I feel you DON'T have to answer that AS its quite sensible AND self-preserving that a helmet saves further injury...!

I recall a few impacts with my head as a child & it wasn't something I came to like and so a helmet, whether you like it or not, helps !

So much for informed choice then........

what about the rotational injuries that rise hand in hand with increased helmet wearing?

however, i now use a helmet for one reason only. the fact that a judge reduced one poor buggers payout. i have even re-installed pedal reflectors so they have no excuse. if i get knocked off....I WANT FULL MONEY!!!!

Now that must have been painful

evidently it contained a malformed video ID.

Barry

Yeah it was Beach - but the chainy waited/stopped for me...and I was on the back (of the group after I started off again)...if it wasnt for that helmet I wouldnt have got up for a while.
