Okay...

70 quid!!!

Bugger that, I'm out.

;)
It'd want to be a 5 course meal with wine at the end for that!!

Is there not a ceilidh and hog roast (or some such) organised for after the ride?

There might be but nothing obvious is stated on the site. At that cost I would think twice. The Etape Caledonia is the most expensive sportive I've entered and you get a fair bit of support for your money (though no barn dance at the end). Can't see where the money is going here.

After cycling 100 miles I might not be up for a Ceilidh... note to self: need to train my higland dance muscle groups for greater endurance

Quite a few of us will be doing the Action Medical Research Trossachs Ton on 20 June, well recommended by such stars as Magnatom  and HLaB .

I did this last year and would not recommend - the route is generally OK but some of the road surfaces are shocking and not fit for road bikes. With the harsh winter this year i wouldn't bet on it being any better.

For a starting sportive i'd recommend the short option on the Drumlanrig Challenge.

I remember your comments about the road surface!

I'm taking my good lady to Paris on 1st May, so can't do the Drumlanrig one either.

Funnily enough i got a flyer through the post today about the Trossachs Ton and they are offering a 100K as well as the 100m route. No details on the 100K route. But this might be an option for you?

Especially if the 100k misses out Duke's Pass and Crow Road!
