I bought this Friday

just so I have some thing too nip too the shop on rather than the road bike. I found my self driving too the shop round the corner rather than using a bike so I was missing an opportunity to ride.
But I need some thing to hang on the rack that will hold a couple of milks etc. Not planning on any touring.
The Argos one seems too have good reviews and cheap. My other plan was maybe just hang a small ruck sack on the side. With three girls in school I have more ruck sacks than socks could find a couple of bungee straps and away too go. But a bit worried about things getting snagged in wheels. I could just wear the ruck sack of course but I like the idea of a pannier. Plus a trip too the butcher on Saturday is about 20 miles so I wouldn't really fancy wearing a rucksack

I don't know about the argos one, but have a look at the Basil Mara range. Wiggle seems to have got rid of their stock, but they're still widely available and cheap. I carry loads of shopping in mine and I think the basic two bag design would give you more flexibility for that than a bunch of pockets, plus they leave the top of the rack free to strap on a 12-pack of loo roll.

I've had the 35l version since september and it's not showing any signs of wear. I just got the 47l one too and that's built a bit differently, including a stiff inner lining (on the wheel-facing side). The stitching at the top of that has already come loose a bit which is disappointing, but it doesn't look like it'll affect the function. They can catch your heels, but as long as you bear that in mind when mounting them I've found it's not a problem to get them far back enough. They can also interfere with the wheels but shouldn't with that rack (I've only had it with my minimalist lightweight one).

I need a few minutes to deal with the buckles and velcro, so I don't recommend getting them on and off constantly, but I guess you're ok with that and it would be the same with the Releigh one.

SJS on Ebay are selling these which you can pick up for about £15. I just bought two sets for a wee family tour and was quite impressed with them. Not sure you'd get better cheaper.

Yes the Argos one did look a bit bulky and fiddly
Can't be leave I am looking forward too peddling too the shops when I have a car sat out the front. This mid life thing has really hit me hard ;) It also seems to have lasted 2 1/2 years too so lets hope it continues

panniers came today they fit well loads of room and look fairly weather resistant. Took them for a spin to the butcher and 18 miles and 6 kilo of mince later thumbs up. Not sure on the best way to secure the little bungee straps on the bag really don't want them coming lose and getting in the wheels. Saved a few quid on fuel and lost a few calories plus I got a chance to ride.
Found the bike much better for town than my road bike too. Chain slipped a few times and hopped off once so I will pop to the bike shop for a bit of a check over. Hopefully just needs a new chain and tweaking maybe

I have a pair of these, bought about 2 years ago. Decent enough for the money, but the bungee's disintegrated on mine after a month or so (I replaced with bodged own bungees), and the cotton duck on my most used one is now transparent at the bottom of the pannier, and will give way imminently (after about 50 uses). I attach the hook on the bungee's to the bottom of the pannier legs where they have joined the pannier frame just above the bottom fixing bolt on each side. Hope that makes sense.

I bought some replacement bungee hooks and they're going strong. My first set of those panniers lasted 2 years hard shopping and general transport use, after which they started developing holes, and I'm now on a second set. Be patient with ebay and you can get a set for under a tenner.

I do have some better ones for other uses!

Gave them a first proper test yesterday 10 miles back from tesco in the rain with just over 3 stone in them. Can't seem too fault them. My first real experience of any sort of load too. First thing I learnt was get the weight over the axle and not near the rear. Bike did a bucking bronco impression when I unchained it from the rails at first

Those Argos ones look very similar to the LIDL ones coming on offer next Monday, except the Lidl ones are cheaper and have a full rain cover.

Still, the SJS ones are clearly recommended on here and are only just tad dearer than the Lidl ones after p&p
