Seriously, is there a reason, and lack of funds may be a good one, why you don't just buy some lights and ride anyway....? It is IMMENSE fun and you know the cars are coming for ages before they hit pass you.

I know how you feel Matthew
New job, too far to commute, too many hours, ive only done 20 miles and an hour on the turbo in two weeks

I was thinking of driving half way and cycling the rest, but the roads are so goddamn awful for the car on the route id need to do, i cant see myself doing it.
I really cant see myself cycling much till after Xmas

Get some good lights and nothing should stop you getting out.
Good shout but ive got to admit cycling at night doesnt appeal to me as i ride on country roads and lanes id imagine there wont be much light out there except if i bought bike lights, when i blew my tyre the other day i was right out in the sticks so do i want to be in that position in pitch black

well, maybe. good lights, a spare tube, some co2, a puncture repair kit and decent pump, a multitool and the knowledge how to use them, a ten pound note, some common sense, and a mobile phone. I bet you already own most. you're sorted. got any cycling mates? ride together, safety in numbers, three being ideal, one to go for help one to stay when things go wrong.

See if you can come on a FNRttC next year, that will get you hooked.

Matthew - come up with an earlier ride - you are at College - all the time in the world, and there are plenty of quiet roads around Prestatyn - get a good training circuit up the big hill - been up that on 42 x 21 - never again . You get vertigo just standing in the car park near the top on that bugger.

I find riding in the dark is better early morning that in the evening, as the roads are quieter. Get out of bed an hour or two earlier and get a ride in, if I did not do this my cycling would be extremely short.

Well it is stupidly steep.

I have never been good on very steep hills but as this one has caused so many problems for anyone who has cycled up it, I want to conquer it. I might have a go at it at the weekend. I doubt I will get to the top though (I will have to get off the bike at some point).
