Are you feeling a bit Christmassy yet?

Just watched the last two-thirds of "100 Greatest Christmas Moments". Now normally I'd struggle to sit through anything that has "100" in the title, and with grown-up kids there's not the gathering air of expectancy about Christmas that we used to have throughout the house by now, but today I was just feeling so bushed that flopping on the sofa and soaking in something seasonal (even if I'd seen bits of it before) has actually done the trick. I'm even wondering what other Christmas gems are on tv tonight.

I may even have a mince pie...

Only just bought my first Christmas item, some crackers. I said I wasn't going to leave it till December this year, oops!

Some of my family members are going to my sisters for Christmas, myself included, and there is a list we've got so we don't forget anything, crackers, turkey, veg, etc..., but I offered to get many of them, as if there's one person who can get the best deal, it's me.

So got some good crackers off the market today for £1 a box, different sizes and brands 6-12 in a box, but good quality ones, the type that have screwdriver sets in and suchlike.

I'm feeling very christmassy and I intend to enjoy every moment this year. I put my lights up on Friday and today I bought my christmas tree (they were 25% off at the garden centre). On Wednesday I'm doing all of my christmas shopping and last thursday I went to a christmas do. I've already eaten loads of mince pies!

I will be starting to make my own Christmas crackers this week. And possibly some new Christmas decorations.

I have ordered the Turkey crown - "Barn reared in good conditions" and made a list of Christmas pudding, redcurrant jelly etc. Just waiting to hear that song by Greg Lake.

Edit; You wanted to know why. There is now less than three weeks to go. So it seems reasonable to start preparations. I think the tv adverts etc start far too early with Seasonal things.

I have been doing less and less for Christmas over the last 10 years or so to the point I don't even think about trees, the commercialisation and shopping, the waste of resources in cards and posting unwanted tat around the country, etc. Also I am not a Christian and so I don't really want to celebrate the birth of Christ, or any other religious event from any of the religions.

To me it is more a chance to get some 'work' done without work getting in the way. Even the 'big feast' is no more then I would have on any other non work day.

My avatar is as 'Christmassy' as things get for me.

Nope, generally Jane and I feel Xmassy on Boxing Day once Xmas day is out of the way, but this year we've got to go to her parents on Boxing Day so it'll be the day after that. On the plus side though it does mean we don't have to have turkey on Xmas Day so it's beef wellington this year.

I have to teach A Christmas Carol from the end of November to the middle of December, so I'm getting into it rather than fighting it. And my boyfriend is getting really into it this year, he wanted to put his tree up on 30th of November so we've been shopping for decorations. I'm knitting a lot of presents this year, so I had to make an early start on that. And I made mince pies yesterday, they were lovely! Miles better than shop bought.

My tree went up on Saturday and my choir sang carols at one of the local shopping arcades, so that has helped me get into the spirit. As I'm off w*rk at the moment, I've had no excuse to put off writing the cards etc, so they are in the post. I've made a lot of pressies this year, really just have Mr Slug to buy for and money/vouchers to go into cards for various kids.

It's just MS and I on christmas Day, we haven't yet decided what we will eat. SlugMummy,SlugBoy and his girlfriend won't be here until 3rd January and they are certainly not going to want another turkey dinner (gf is a veggie anyway) so I'll think about that nearer to the time.

I'll probably be back at w*rk the week before Christmas so I really want to get as much as possible ready before that.
