But speaking of riding gear... are people as obsessed in the UK as much as they are here in the States with wearing head to toe spandex riding gear? (with padded butts and shorts with numbers & advertising on them like they are the number one sponsored rider of the world?) So many of the riders here seem so obsessed with themselves that they cannot even bother to give a head nod to a fellow biker. Might break their extreme concentration or something. Okay, so a 20-mile ride is usually my upper norm, and I’m an oldtimer, but I just don’t feel the need to wear butt pads to ride comfortably. I especially don’t like the idea of tight “aerodynamic” shorts either. I’d rather have the breeze go where it will. On the other hand, I love moisture-wicking materials, especially on days like today, hot and sticky. Like this today, just another summer day.
So what’s the verdict? Generally a Spandex Nation or not?
