I'll 'fess up here. With the exception of a few very technical sites that I post on very rarely, I don't post anywhere else. This is largely because the quality of posting here is extremely high. It's not just the technical stuff which you tend to take for granted on specialist forums, but the quality of the discussions and the repartee.

So, let's be objective. Those of you with experience of other forums, can you say what the quality level is?

Despite the banter on here (which actually is a good thing in the long run IMO, save a few incidents), the general friendliness and knowledge is good. There are specialists on other forums, like the road cycling ones, but they tend to be snobby and start arguing amongst themselves about Colnago vs Pinarello in every thread, not helping the OP, and say you can't get a decent bike for under £800, that kind of thing. Well done CC

This is the only forum I need, for the reasons Patrick's already said. I used to post on Truckersworld and Safespeed, but once you got away from talking about lorries / speed cameras, they had very little to say. I can log on here safe in the knowledge that I can have an intelligent conversation with someone at any time. C+ was the same.

The banter here is good, and Racing and Audax sub-fora are growing. Some of the technical knowledge stuff could do with a bit more people contributing. I post here and on YACF, both have their merits, both have their flaws.

No, it's a forum he posts on - and he's a Forum God there.
At least SimonCC will have somewhere else to go.

No. This forum isn't that good for actual technical advice. I once posted a thread on a technical matter, the question being "how to remove a stuck pedal with a seized thread" from a crank that it's been attached to for 26 years, and no-one knew. The correct answer was whack the crank with a hammer on both sides in line with the centre of the axle and turn firmly with it in a vice, but absolutely nobody was experienced enough in the field of cycling to know this. Most of the answers were some variation on blasting a blowtorch at it
I find yacf tends to be slightly better for actual technical advice, although I did also once get a response to a front mech question from someone who was quite sure he knew that was the right answer, where on experimentation it was actually the wrong answer.
