Are my walking boots dead?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
They're only 25 years old, mind you if they could get to even half your age I'd be very happy.

An even closer inspection probably confirms that they are, to put it not too technically, fubar.

It looks like damp laces have lain on the leather and rotted bits away.

Sealskin socks don't last long so expect to budget for up to two or three pairs a year with regular use.

Cheapskates might see value in getting a good pair of new boots and actually looking after them.

Look okay to me, a few coats of wax and they'll be fine.

Reading the thread on Mrs sd's missing walking boots threw this one up in the similar threads, so here's the result.

Not wanting to spend too much, or look like a rambler, I ended up with these - https://www.militarykit.com/products/mil-tec-tactical-side-zip-boots-black?variant=22973960552506

They're absolutely bang on, really comfy, and I can't see any reason why I'd need to pay three times the price for something from an established outdoor brand.

Not wanting to look like a rambler.. so you want to look like a paramilitary instead? People pay 3x more so they can have dry feet, those are not waterproof.

Do folk still use old leather walking boots filled with soil and plants as garden ornaments? @stephec, have you seen those such boots outside the church, on the right hand side as you walk/drive up Moore Lane in Clitheroe?
