Any reason you do it manually rather than using auto stop? I just get it to stop recording if I drop below 3mph. Saves me from forgetting to hit start when I set off

This is very interesting as I am just looking into getting my first smartphone with GPS...
Is there a safety aspect to this smartphone technology, in that were I to fall off at a certain point on my ride, if I was out of contact and inexplicably late, could my wife log into a website and see where I had stopped ?

My Mrs makes me put endomondo on my Blackberry for this reason if I go for a long ride, in addition to the Garmin. The bonus here is that she will know when I am about to get home and I usually have a cup of tea/dinner waiting for me
You can give her an account on whichever service you use and then add her as a friend/contact so she can see the live data.
