Apple cider = non alcoholic Apple juice

Hard cider = what we call cider but made from a range of apples not traditional cider apple
WTF?

Mon alcoholic Apple juice is just "Apple juice".

Apple cider as opposed to pear cider also called perry

Hard cider - is that even a term? maybe if frozen.

Cider in the United States

In the United States, the definition of cider is broader than in Europe. There are two types: one is the traditional fermented product, called hard cider, and the second is sweet or soft cider.[1] However, in some regions, cider is the alcoholic version, whether made from apples or pears, and apple cider is the non-alcoholic version.

I am aware of the Americans' abuse of the English language and as much as I disapprove, they are not going to change just for me.

However, even the Americans appear to recognise that cider, of whatever variety, is made from apples. If it's not made from apples, it's not cider. If you make the equivalent drink from pears, it's called perry. There is no such thing as pear cider. It's like saying wombat bacon.

I call "Hard Cider" the stuff i drank once in the deepest, darkest Shropshire which had grass and animal fur in it. I don't think i have ever been that drunk in my life before or since.
