Wow - a lot of info there from everyone... thanks.

I didnt realise the £1k limit on the C2W scheme, so will need to check that Halfords will take a payment to top it up. Also I live in Kent and do ride some fairly harsh hills. I re-geared the Boardman with 53/39 as I wanted more speed, so if I go for the 13, I will bear in mind that I might end up changing the cassette it its too much... but I do have a need for speed too

Halfords offered to get the 13 in so I could take a look, so I think I will do that and if they let me put some pedals on it I will try it first (then haggle as it'll be an ex-demo one then!!).

Cheers all and it will be a few weeks before my firm gets signed up to C2W... but will let you know what I end up going for.

No you cant add to the value of the bike on c2w, unless theyve changed the rules since Jan.
Policy on ex demos is no discount unless you can see any blemishes or imperfections caused by it being on demo, then the policy is 10%
But they wont let you take a display model at all if they are orderable

Used to work there btw

Sadly looks like I wont be able to get any  My boss spoke to me today and said that the C2W scheme means that the company has to pay for the bike first and then claim the VAT back and tax concessions - but he says it would cost the company because of the increased accountancy costs and he's not prepared to buy the bike initially - so it looks like I'll have to plod on with my Boardman and hope for a lottery win!!

One of the disadvantages of working for a small company (6 people)!

Thanks for all the advice though - really appreciate it.

How about interest free credit/credit card...then you can buy a heavily reduced bike and it likely won't cost any more. Just be disciplined, set up a standing order, pay it off over 6 or 12 months ...and as with C2W make sure it's fully insured

Yes, I am quite disciplined and play credit cards all the time - paid for double glazing and my car over the last few years using interest free cards and now also use the new free transfer offers to my benefit - but the appeal of the C2W was the fact I could get a £1000 bike for c£800...

But appreciate the thought - thanks

But you still could get a £1000 bike for £800...look at Pauls cycles for example.
