OnGuard Pitbull d lock, £21.21 on Amazon. (For insurance, it has the Sold Secure silver rating.)

Are you going to carry this lock, or leave it at work?

If you're going to carry it you might appreciate a lower weight.  Lighter locks are not necessarily less resistant, sometimes they're better designed and made, though obviously this costs more.  I have a Squire Urban Paramount that was the lightest I could find a few years ago (Just under 1 Kilo) and a Magnum (Over 2 Kilo and half the price) both Sold Secure Gold.  If you're going to leave it at work then it might as well be a heavy lock, it'll look stronger even if you know it isn't.

About £20 and Gold rated by Sold Secure. MasterLock Street Fortum.

Edit: do a Search here and you may find stuff about the iffy bracket.

The bracket is designed okay, the problem is that the lock weighs around 2 kg and it acts like a lever when mounted on the frame. I have simply secured the outermost part of the lock to the frame with a velcro strap and it has cured any risk of the lock jumping out when going over rough surfaces.

Sometimes common sense needs to be applied; it is impossible to secure a 2 kg bracket to a cycle frame without supplying a very heavy duty metal bracket, which would add to both the cost and weight. The plastic bracket is perfectly fit for purpose with the addition of a restraining strap.

kryptonite evolution series 4 - about £35 usually

up your budget to £60 and you can buy the kryptonite M18 (reduced from £100) - toughest lock on the market (probably)

Halfords Magnum plus D lock.I have one, I like it!

These locks are essentially the OnGuard ones by the looks of things and very good locks. I have the mini version which I use for non-commuting journeys (my other locks stay at work) it was £44 well spent and very portable.

But a note of caution, it's a bitch to get around some stands.

I've just bought the Squire Urban Paramount lock (230mm) as it sounded just what I was looking for (good security but not too heavy), but they must have changed the lock since you bought yours as it weighs nearly 1.5kg, so not as light as I'd hoped!
