Anyone here from Rotherham?

I’m up in Rotherham next weekend visiting the in laws and am taking my SIL out on her new e-bike. I don’t think she’s done much cycling before so I’m after a lovely quiet road/firm trail route from Rawmarsh to a cafe…about 10 miles either way.

I’m searching using cycle.travel and Komoot but wondered if any cyclechatters could make suggestions.

Postmans dad Colin was from Rawmarsh,but sadly not with us anymore.

I believe the TPT (Trans Pennine Trail) branches down to Rotherham, if you head towards Meadowhall & then north to Penistone I seem to recall that is quiet roads & firm trails, but it is a while since I have ventured that way

It depends to some extent where in Rawmarsh you're starting from, but here's one 16 mile option:

Generally quiet lanes/roads couple with a good proportion of firm cinder/crushed limestone trail, although there might be a few puddles given recent weather. It's lovely in summer. Wildlife (Old Moor wetlands), heritage (Elsecar Branch Canal & the Heritage Centre), and history (Holy Trinity Church in Wentworth and Wentworth Woodhouse definitely worth a look ... although these may of course be familiar to your SiL).
Several cafe options: RSPB Old Moor Visitor Centre, Elsecar Heritage Centre, Village Tea Rooms or Garden Centre in Wentworth.

It's a bit of a climb from Elsecar up to Wentworth (and there's a short one approaching Wath), but otherwise OK, especially if SiL is on an e-bike.

Rawmarsh .... ride to the railway station ... cycle paths via Barbot Hall ind est .... then you have 20 miles of cycle paths, tarmac and rough, along the canal and river Don to Hillsborough or even north at Meadowhall to Blackburn Meadows ..
Cafes, pubs ( Meadowhall Wetherspoons is on the cycle path) ... Look for the 5 Weirs Walk on the net ...
Urban wonderland through Sheffield.
