Anyone been able to fit mudguards on a Triban 3

Am thinking for a winter road solution!

I don't really want to use my best bike, with or without guards in poor weather. I don't really want to spend the best part of £600 on what I reckon is by far one of the best winter bike set-ups out there in the shape of the Ribble winter option. I have an old Trek sure, courtesy of a fellow CCer, which I use on the turbo BUT...am thinking on buying a Triban 3 to use as a winter bike.

So, anyone use the Triban 3 as a winter bike and more importantly, can you or have you manged to fit mudguards without issue?

Does it have the fittings to take mudguards? If not, I'd recommend the Crud Roadracer MK2.. In fact, if it has I'd still recommend them.. They're a bit flimsy and easily damaged (the reason I've replaced mine with some polycarbonate and wire framed guards) but tbh I wish I'd gone with the Roadracers again..

+1 for Crud Roadracer Mk2s.

A really clever product that works on bikes that don't have any fixing points for conventional mudguards.

My brother bought one and it has guard and rack clearance and fittings. He bought Crud mk2s for it because they are light and protect the front mech.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
The Ribble is a great winter bike, but the mudguard clearance is not very generous, especially if using anything bigger than 23mm tyres.

Thanks folks.

I read with interest regarding the Ribble youngoldchap, but I think they come fitted already, so it's not my problemo if that's the case. But I might be wrong..? They say they're fitted.

That's also handy to know Hacienda.

Yes they are fitted, just that the clearance is not huge, and mud collects between the tyre and guard - but it does with all mudguards anyway. I certainly wouldn't let it put you off the Ribble Winter/Audax bike.

Yes I have one - as I say great bikes. But the clearance is not very much. I use 23mm Gatorskins, (and SKS guards) but ride with a friend who uses 25mm tyres on theirs and last winter he had to stop on a number of occasions to remove the mud build up - completely releasing the wheels sometimes. Obviously happens with other bikes too. (I also use Road Racers on another bike and they - the RR - have much less clearance). Any other Ribble owners? I would definitely buy another one.

Put crud roadracers on my triban3 and they work pretty well ...its is a tight fit but if you take your time then it will not be a problem.

Excellent, I already have a New Sportive and am very impressed with it so my mind may well be made up...thanks.
