We go to Bham one each year. Very good for unusual presents when you find the right stalls. Bought a merry go round that works on convection from the radiator a couple of years ago and the kids still can't figure out how it works ! (there's also quite a bit of stuff you can see anywhere as well). Watch out for the overpriced choccies though.

Avoid friday evenings - it's basically just a big outdoor pub for locals. Wheatbeer is always good, lager is usual piss water and the mulled wine is good. Stalls are so-so IMO but I may be immune to it as I've been there so often! I'm not a meat-eater but you can get what looks like a cracking bit of roast pork and various other Bavarian treats.

I'll be visiting the Manchester one on Monday.

Sausage in a bun, a beer and a bag of mixed salami will do nicely thankyou.
Anything else is a bonus.

We are too far west to get visited by German marketeers. On Sunday there is a Farmer's market here. How much should I expect to pay for a handsome, fit Farmer, between the ages of 40 and 50, and with his own liquid assets?

...well I can report that the German contigent went, inspected and returned today. The verdict...it was ok...a reasonable effort, but not up to the standard of the real german markets back home...mainly because the Rauchermanner were the cheaper far east versiuons and not the real deal from eastern Germany...which if you know about this stuff is important.

I have been to Weinachtsmarkts in Dresden, Koln, Munchen, Hamburg, Wien & Salzburg all were brill...it snowed heavily in Munchen when we went...perfect....Dresden was the biggest.

Got to be better than Southampton's German Market as at least it might have Christmas lights to iluminate it. Council in Southampton have said that they can't afford to put lights or a tree up this year, this despite being offered £10,000 towards the cost:sad:. BTW where do they hold it in Brum?
