Another way to find people local to you with similar abilities is to join Strava and check out the people that do the same segments as you.

Thanks Iain and Kies, I've started considering joining Sleaford Wheelers, as a friend of mine rides with what he calls their 'special needs' group lol. Sounds like that might be ok for me.

I was a bit afraid of them before as they seem so serious but I might go on a couple of their 'join along' rides to see if I fit in before joining. I've been out with a small group of ladies locally last year, but they've not been out recently, coordinating diaries seems to be a bit of an issue.

I'm only really a beginner so all information is very welcome from whatever source

I've also started training for this ride, and although I'm not too daunted by the distance (or maybe in denial!) I am concerned about my speed and beating the time limit. Does anyone else think that there might be a lot of people that don't manage to finish the course due to time constraints?

Lots of things to consider, but bike handling and confidence in riding in a tight formation will help you save energy more than anything else. Riders who are trained in the skill of bunch riding will always have an edge but there are plenty of fit cyclists today who haven't got a clue, so find a regular club/group and join in. Also watch the pro.s on tv to see whats expected.

I suspect they'll be a broom wagon coming up the rear. They can't force you onto it but they can force you off the road as they close if for the race that is following. One could always wait till it's gone through and carry on. There would be no one to welcome you at The Mall though.

In theory I should be ok about the time (barring any technical mishaps) but starting to panic anyway as I've only ever cycled for fun and not for speed! There seem to be a lot of people on the FB page that sound as if they are new to any type of cycling so I am concerned that quite a few of them won't be able to finish the course in time.

Guess it would be like having a 5 hour cut off for the Marathon and stopping anyone that is not able to make that. Sort of...

Think I missed that there's a Facebook page! What's the link?

Yup, there's a broom wagon! Don't want to get swept off. I'm currently trying to build up my time in the saddle, with some intervals on a turbo
