Thank you. Feeling much younger now.
I did have a guitar when I was about 12 but my parent's confiscated my Bert Weedon, Play in a day book. I replaced it with my pocket money but they confiscated it again. After about 4 attempts I just gave up.

What? Why on east didn't they want you to play guitar? Did they want you to be a bassist instead?

Yet another guitarist here. I played in a few rock & blues bands in the from late 90's through to 5 years ago when the last band split and I moved down to Leicestershire. Would love to pick up again but don't know to many folks down here yet. Still twiddle occasionally and.mess about on the uke from time to time.

Playing in bands is a brilliant way of making really good friends; it binds you in a way that is very difficult to describe to anyone who has never been in a band. It can also make what appears to be dull and dire gigs the best events in the world, like here - http://lawsie.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/junk-culture-tour-diary-three-days.html

I've been playing drums on and off since I was 16, I'm not very good but I can keep a beat and count to four. I play in a three piece blues/ covers band, we don't gig much but we rehears a lot. We don't gig mainly 'cos we can't be bothered to go out and get the gigs, so we just rehearse because we enjoy playing for ourselves.

Like my cycling, I'm all gear an' no idea sort of a drummer, one of the few benefits of being a bit older now is that I can afford any drum kit I like within reason, so I have some really good gear, it don't make me sound any better, but it looks might fine.

There's enough musos on here to form The Cycle Chat Big Band.

The world is always woefully short of drummers!

My thanks to Wayne for starting this thread, I have picked up my guitar after many months and dusted it off, I can hear the familty groaning but luckily enough I have a basement to "play" in.

Reverb up to ten and off we go ^_^

They said that the neighbours didn't like it. They said that about the violin, piano, trumpet, cello and flute too. My music teacher said that if my parents wouldn't let me practice that they would have to have the school instrument back.
My parents were a little odd. I had a pony but was not allowed to enter any local gymkhanas nor ride anywhere that they hadn't pre-approved. Very strict and not terribly nice. It was a relief when they died TBH. After leaving school I bumped into one of the neighbours and she said that she reported my parents to the NSPCC repeatedly and that she had no problem with learning to play any instrument and that she played the drums. You live and learn.

I am approaching 50, which is scary so I want to learn to play a guitar and try to improve my appalling French too. My "To Do" list is longer now than it was when I was 30 and I have ticked a lot off over the last 20 years.

I have just remembered, that I have a guitar as well! Quite a nice Yamaha acoustic guitar that I got for my birthday a while ago, started having lessons then forgot all about it. D'oh!
