Any one bought tech from CEX ...and returned it?

I bought something on a whim, got it home, tried it, decided it was crap and want to take it back for a refund.

however just after paying, the bloke in CEX said, if you don't like it you can bring it back within two days and we'll refund you a voucher.

If I'd been told that before paying, I'd not have bothered because there's not much in CEX that tickles my fancy.. so a voucher isn't much use.

I've looked up their T&Cs and if the item is faulty, then I could get a refund to my debit card... but it's not faulty, i just don't want it... and i don't want a voucher either.

Can they legally have a policy of not giving cash* refunds?

*or refunding the card used for payment.

You don't have a legal right to go back on a contract just because you changed your mind.

So if their terms and conditions don't help and they didn't make any representations about the item that aren't true, then you will have to accept a voucher and hope you see something you like or else chalk it up to experience.

I think this is the answer... but it would have been nice if I was informed about their 'shoddy' returns policy before purchase.

...but i think as consumers, we do have the right to change our mind... especially when we cannot try before we buy.

Not bought anything from the local one, it's been raided a few times for openly selling items known to be stolen. I'm therefore dubious of their buyers checks.

I use my local CEX quite a lot, and have had no issues with trying stuff before I buy, they nearly insist on it. The returns policy is OK, the voucher has no expiry date so provided you don't forget where you put it they always tend to be used.
They also give 24 months warranty on everything..

You expected a grotty little secondhand chain to have the same returns policy as John Lewis?

Lesson learnt, I guess; if you aren't 100% sure, ask about the returns policy.

Blimey, just checked and turnover is about £150 millions....

I expect any high street store to have a reasonable returns policy... it's not exactly a car boot sale.

I totally agree, especially when they don't have testers in the local branch of Boots !!!

Sorry, but it isn't a "Shoddy returns policy". There was nothing wrong with the product and if you later decided you didn't like it then tough. Until recently I was involved in sales and returns cost money, they have to be re-packaged which is often impossible to do so the item can be resold as new so they go out as seconds at less than cost price.

It may sound harsh but if you decide you like it enough to buy it in he shop and you later change your mind, that's your problem.
