Pick the plastic stopper out of the bottle with a sharp knife or other such implement. It does come out.

Slip a small screwdriver blade in between the cork and the bottle and inject some WD40 into the gap .

Melt the plastic top with a flame thrower, or sit the whole kit and kaboodle in a vat of battery acid.

Rinse.

Refill with vinegar.

There is a trick so you can refill the "flip top" type but cant find one for this. It appears impossible to remove the stopper.
Any enterprising CCrs out there ?
BTW I like pickled onion vinegar on my chips...... so wish to bottle it.

Stick one tine of a fork into the hole and lever the plastic 'bung' out.

Soaking with cold water worked well for me, along with bicarbonate of soda mixed with vinegar, suggested elsewhere.

Place the whole thing in a microwave and heat on full power until the top is propelled off. No effort. No fiddling with sharp things. Satisfying "bang". Much the best way.

Why on earth would I do that? I have lots of blood stains** on the carpet after 50 years of marriage......they add a bit off character.

Several manly pumps and I can guarantee that it'll pop out, and probably smash the fluorescent lights..

Test the principle first with an empty tin of T&L Golden Syrup (it works equally well with the Black Treacle tin, but they're not so plentiful). Stand your tin on the kitchen worktop, taking care that it isn't below any lights or anything else breakable. Boil some water in the kettle, and pour some into the tin. An inch is plenty. Put the lid in place, but don't shove it home hard. Don oven gloves, and working carefully at arms length, agitate the tin gently. After 15 or 20 seconds, take a table knife and gently prise at the edge of the lid. Place a dust cloth before starting to repaint your ceiling.
