Oh yes got my days mixed up  NCN 8 is very well marked in that neck of the woods. You should have no issues at all.
hey angel going tomorrow buddy, gotta pick up my saris bones 3 bike up from go outdoors tomoz too, then up to the test ride and then onto the practice run from ponty to Cardiff for my future work ride, out of curiosity on the taff trail, i have worked out i need to keep to route 8, is this clearly sign posted, even when the trail goes on the road??

he mate, went to the shop but it was raining so i didn't bother in the end trying it but had a look at some stunning bikes but they're getting too hard to get , they're basically all selling out real fast, but i know what size now and i think a cube is the way to go, although the guy at the shop reckons that the taff trail is no way suited to a road bike, can you confirm this, i plan on going from Nantgarw to Radyr, about 6 miles...not sure if you're familiar with that part of the trail??

I know that road (drop handled) bikes use the trail. It is muddy in places and you need to watch out for glass et al. If the wheels and tyres are tough enough and the bike isn't soley designed for racing I see no reason why not.

I did it for a charity ride last September, from Brecon to Cardiff, and I have to say that for the Trail as a whole I agree with him, although the section you mention is probably fine. I was on a road bike with 23mm Gatorskins - not the bike I'd choose for it, but I was on the way back from the FNRttC, which I didn't fancy on a mtb. A lot of it is fine, and indeed the road bike is advantageous for most of the miles, but there are enough unsuitable sections of various kinds to make a cyclocross bike the weapon of choice. There are some quite significant bits of muddy, gravelly and rocky stuff, not to mention some tarmac sections that look like you can whizz through but they have deathtrap gates with slippery metal plates underneath. Plus all the usual idiosyncratic annoyances associated with off-road routes. I wouldn't do it on a road bike again.

i was thinking of getting some good puncture repair tyres as I'm not going to race the bike so don't mind the extra weight and lacking performance as i have nothing to compare it with anyways, but thanks for the knowledge though..
