As a kid, my absolutely favourite thing was model airplanes, especially those from WWII. Since seeing some superb constructions recently, I've got right back in to it again and some of the models available today are of a magnificent quality. Having the assistance of You Tube, there are some wonderful on-line advice resources about and it's something I've really renewed my enthusiasm for it. Anyone else like modelling?

I used to make a lot of Airfix models of WW2 airplanes and battleships.

Same here when I was a lad.

Warplanes, tanks, and cars were my favourite.

Every week I'd go to our local corner shop that sold Matchbox kits for about 70p, and every now and then I'd get an Airfix kit.

I won a Spitfire kit when I was 7 or 8 for being the class's male swot! I liked it a lot but didn't take my interest much further.

(I think the female swot won something typically mid-60s non-PC e.g. a Barbie doll!)

Yes I did it as a kid, Airfix etc. My son really got into it after seeing the James May programme, and he hasnt stopped. Loves the complex cars and has built an Enzo, with sticker assistance from me, but is now doing his own. Currently working on a Mclaren Mercedes sports car.

I really struggle with the tiny 2mm stickers that have to be put into the dash board. My eyes cant cope.

Yeah, I recently sewed a OO scale builder's cubic metre sand sack, and it took my eyes about an hour to get back to long focus!

I had Airfix as a kid, but NT and I are more into trains these days, and I specialise in scenery and props while he plans the track and locos.

About 40 years ago I really got into cobbling the Airfix and Hasegawa English Electric Lightning kits together to make a reasonable impression of the F3 Lightning, complete with natural metal finish and flamboyant squadron tailfins, the 56 squadron red and white chequers being a particular challenge. What an aeroplane!

I liked making Airfix kits for a bit, but mine generally looked a mess... glue everywhere, and for some reason I used to paint them after assembling them, which obv wasn't as good as painting the bits, letting them dry, then putting it all together (I was too impatient for that). I had a great Concorde model, but my mum accidentally sat on it and bust the wing.

Think my avatar says most of it. This is an old fleet - need to get them all out again and do another photo.

Currently flying (or about to) a Piper Pawnee, DH Chipmunk, Auster A0P9, Ju 87 Stuka, Beech D18, Partenavia P68, a sport biplane and a Westland Lysander. All i/c engines. All but the Chippie and the bipe built from plan, no kit.
