..on here?

I have the athena groupset since nov 2010 only replacing the chain (after 4k miles) as I have looked after it well. Lately the shifting has started to go out of alignment a lot, and the rear break spring seems to have packed in.

Is it time to overhaul the lot (clean, replace cables, swap worn parts i.e. derailleur hanger) and what have you done to your setup?

So far this year I have covered circa 700 miles, and last year about 1500 miles.

Thanks

Same group, same vintage. Rather higher mileage than you though, I think (over 7k on the bike since November 2010, Athena went on that July). Front brake seized up end of '11 due to lack of cleaning, ended up buying a pair (not available singly), so I've been rather more careful cleaning those since then. My RD is now being a bit glitchy- not out of alignment, just somewhat clunky changing from time time to time, so I got a nearly new one on eBay, that's going on at the LBS in a fortnight. They are serviceable but hardly worth it if you can get one for under £50! I had Gore Ride-On Professional cables fitted at new, and they're still going strong. New chain and cassette will be going on this service, that's the second change I think.

Excellent, thanks for the post Stu - my rear cage has lots of scuff marks and wanted to hear some experiences from other users on what they have done to their setups. I can handle most replacements myself however do not own the BB removal tool for example so will have to weigh up taking to the LBS for some maintenance or bite the bullet and replace with the same equipment and buy the appropriate tools.
