Excellent work mate. Take it very easy to begin with, then build up the distance slowly. I would go with 3 mile increments until about 25 miles, then 5 mile jumps, then 10, when you hit 40+

Glad you enjoyed it

I am planning on going out at least Monday / Wednesday / Friday this week.
Do you mean an additional 3 miles each time?

Water is the best thing for rehydrating IMO, anything even slightly sweet makes me thirstier  How long did the 9 miles take? I would normally only have a couple of mouthfuls of water over that distance (unless out for a coffee pootle and I treat myself with a skinny latte halfway round ^_^ )

I don't take tools with me, wouldn't know what to do with them anyhow

Took me 45 minutes. I probably drank around 350ml.

Perhaps every other ride, if you're doing it 3 times a week (ooh er). Just a rough idea and trying to get across not to push it too hard, at least not to begin with

Yep. Sounds reasonable. Think I'll smash the 10 mile barrier tomorrow, then aim for 15 by the end of the week. Looks like the weather might be on my side :bicycle:

Sounds about the same amount as I drink. It's generally about 500ml an hour for me.

I find water the best thing to drink for keeping hydrated, with electrolytes when it gets hot. If I think I'm going to need to top up my energy stores (usually on rides of 2 hours or more), I take food as well.

Struggled to improve much this morning - just short of 10K in 45ish minutes. My ass was painful after yesterday's ride, and i couldn't comfortably sit down for the first couple of miles. I bought budget BIB pants from Sportsdirect, and guess they're just not up to the job.

are they the muddy fox ones? i need to invest in new ones as one set of the elastic has broken away! i only get a sore ar$e after about 1 1/2 hours with them though (doesnt bode well for me on my 250 mile 3 day charity ride!)

Yeah, it was the MF ones - cost about a tenner. Doesn't feel like they give much protection
