All the Garmin units have a pretty lousey basemap.
If you want it to plot routes on the run, add another £100 for either City Navigator or Topo GB.
If you get Topo, you get a 'secret code' to enter in Garmin's website and they give you a 25 digit code to enter into Mapsource, just so you can see the Topo maps on the unit.
I got the 605, and am I having greif with it?
Making up routes with Mapsource ( downloaded from Garmin Website ) is a nightmare cus like all Garmin kit, the operating instructions are non-existant. There are a LOT of changes from Trip and Waypoint Manager that comes on a cd with eTrex units.
Its a case of 'find out for yourself' or phone the man at Garmin UK.
All in all, if you consider yourself a Technophobe, prepare for a exciting and hair tugging winter.
