I've just picked up the cateye micro wireless... Cost £34.99 and seems pretty decent and worth the money it cost

It depends on what you want the computer for.

You can often pick up cheapish ones from some of the supermarkets. They work just as well as the more expensive ones but the waterproofing seems to let them down.

I would go for one of the cateyes.

I've got a cheapy (about £5) one from Tesco. Had it just over a year, worked OK so far. It does current speed, and then figures for your "trip" (you can reset whenever you want) of distance, time, average speed and then a "forever" setting of total distance and maximum bestest ever speed.

I plan to upgrade at Christmas (good ole Santa) to a Cateye v2c 'cos I want cadence and the ability to time laps (well, actually the time between certain points on my trip to / from work) and review the data after. That's about £70.

Or I might go completely mental and get a Garmin Edge 305 which does everything the Cateye does, plus has USB connection to your PC, GPS (not maps, but you can load routes onto it), the ability to race against a previously set benchmark and all sorts of fun. At about £150 !! :becool:

Then you've got anything and everything in between. As said before, it depends what you wanna do with it. I got the Tesco one 'cos it cost next to nothing and I knew that after I'd used one for a time I'd have a better idea of what I want. And I do.

Exactly that.

I had a cheapie - wireless one - I got for £15, worked well for me and I dropped it loadsa times - still fine.
Kept a daily spreadsheet (at work) to analyse my own data.

The wife got me a Garmin Edge 305 for our anniversary!! sorted. In sayoing that though, I bought her a Garmin Forerunner as she's into running.

Hope this helps

Snap! Kind of. I use Access for my data analysis, not XL, and I haven't yet got a 305. Maybe I should do a deal with Mrs-LC and get her the Forerunner (she does running too) if she gets me a 305?

Good one. Let us know how you get on.

Cheers guys....! I've taken the plunge and am waiting on the arrival of a cat eye micro wireless, seems this will do everything i'll ever need, for now...!! 27 quid inc p+p.....!!!

Nice.. Where did you pick that up from? eBay? I paid the full RRP for mine from Evans because I'm too impatient to wait... Once I see something I want, I have to have it ASAP

Well i must say i am quite impressed with this computer thing...!!! Even more impressed that i was able to fit it and get it working, well apart from setting the time...!!! just felt a bit uneasy having to cable tie the fork sensor and the display mount to my brand new unblemished foks and the horizontal, forward pointing bit that the handlebars bolt to..... in the motorbike world, i'd call this the headstock, ha ha...!!

A quick question that I hope someone will be able to answer, my Mrs is going to buy me a present of my choice (lucky me) so I have decided to go for an Edge 305 but in order to keep costs down for her I would go for a 305 with heart rate and add the cadence sensor later on so can you guess my question? Can I do just that, buy a 305 with HR monitor and add the cadence sensor later on?

ta in advance
