Looks like the replies have pretty much covered every single possible scenario including loose dentures. So the real answer is.....it could be any of those.

I am taking an interest because I have the exact same problem occurring at the exact same point in the revolution - when the right hand pedal is at its lowest. Only as of yesterday, it's turned into a lovely double click. CLICK, click. CLICK, click. CLICK, click. Like that. 35 miles I did, with that sound. I think I can hear it in my sleep.

Thanks for all the advice, did a few things today, different seat, took pedals off and greased, made sure crank arms were tight and sprayed lubricant all over bottom bracket. Not sure what did it but the only noise today was my lungs gasping for air!

wanted to thank all the contributors to this thread I have been trying to track down a creak on my new bike. eventually tracked it down to the seatpost needed greasing only noticed today that when I stood up the bike stopped creaking I've had the bike stripped to its components except for the bottom bracket. I never thought to check the seatpost till I read this

The only reason I hadn't disassembled the bottom bracket is I don't have a crank removal tool

mines back again  cant seem to find it anywhere! i tried standing up on the pedals last night and its still there!!!! so does that rule out the seat post?

weird thing is, for a time last night (in the rain) it went away.
