Unless you are just locking up for a quick dash into a shop, there are no decent locks for £20. If you are talking about home storage, or while you are at work, you need to invest some serious money in a lock, especially if your bike is valuable. A rule of thumb in ten percent of the value. My own bikes are locked up with Pragmasis 16mm chains, very heavy and bolt-cutter resistant - and expensive. Forget £20 locks. You're wasting your time and money.

Cable locks - no. These so caller armoured ones are easy to cut through - there will be a thin cable inside. D-lock only, and used properly.

They are ok for nipping into a shop for a pint of milk but not much else
Too heavy for that kind of use IMO

The "armour" will probably mean a scroat needs an 18" bolt-cutter rather than a 14" one, but will still cut the lock in about 5 seconds.... I'd say a plain cable lock at half the weight & bulk would be as much use.

A lot depends on the value of the bike and where you plan to leave it.

At just a fiver why not buy one and attack it with some bolt cutters or whatever tools you think will do the job?
Don't forget to time the job and report back here!

I'm with the others here - would not touch it. Bike theft is rather common and chances of getting the bike back are close to, if not, zero... so deterrent is the better option - make your bike look less attractive than one next to it by locking it up with something decent. Even my £300 bike is getting locked up with a decent lock. I can't afford to replace the cheap bike let alone the other one so I only use something that it Gold rated and category 15 (out of 15). Heavy, but in my mind worth it.
