Not sure how you missed an ambulance with its lights flashing if you did your normal check behind. Yes, maybe they should have had their siren on, but the car ahead of you managed to pull out if the way safely. Not sure why you couldn't have done the same.

Here in the UK cars have rear view mirrors.

Wow really.

And most cyclists have necks that allow them to look behind them. In the post the op linked to he claims he checked behind him which I calling bull on.

nasty one, but i do agree that it does help to take a very strong primary and i find even riding standing up helps deter overtaking???
i always on blind corners, pinch points like here etc look properly behind me to ensure no one is coming and it is clear and than pull out into the middle of the lane or further to stop drivers

Fortunately that's never happened to me. And can imagine it was a horrific situation. But the vast majority of sane car drivers wouldn't try such a thing. High revving and beeping, yes.. actually physical harm.. no. All mouth and no trousers as the saying goes.
indeed, often they can talk the talk but can't walk the walk
FYI: they won't put the siren on in some cases if the patient is in certain conditions. Adds to distress
also in built up residential hours they don't put them on unless absolutely necessary due to anti social and people trying to sleep etc but by the looks of things this was during day time hours so not relevant this time i guess
blues no wooes i believe they call what they had on in this vid
Cheers Ed

Finally managed to watch the vid. Not a pleasant moment at all. Deffo worth reporting to the ambulance trust.

Can't see why the driver would want his wailers on though (they haven't fitted sirens since the 1980s). Hard to be sure but didn't appear to be speeding, were making good progress, no real need to activate the wailers. A car or van squeezing through the same gap won't have them.

I believe, but can't back up, that they don't use the sirens in heart attack cases as the noise and associated increase in stress can have a further adverse effect. However, being aware that the siren isn't on, the driver should be acting appropriately and giving vulnerable road users time to register he's there when necessary - such as at pinch points.

Regardless of the emergency, and the pinch point, it looks like a perfectly reasonable overtake to me. More space would have been nice, but it's not that close really.

Looks like about a foot to me with the rider in the gutter , bike cams seem to make things look further away so might be even closer .
