Go for it. I was nearly put off doing a 50mile charity ride but decided to take the plunge. Pre that I was regularly doing 30 to 35 mile rides.

The feeling you get after is great and the benefits I have seen are already there now I push for 35 to 40 mile rides at the weekend no issues.

Take plenty of water and if it's a hot one drop a couple of hydration tablets or similar into one of the bottles. Also don't be shy to run into a pub and ask for a top up.

Food wise it's upto you but definatly have a couple of emergency options flapjacks are great and sweets for that extra energy burst.

Let us know how you get on.

Just get on your bike and ride. Head for the Tiptree Jam Factory Tea Rooms in Maldon and stuff yourself full of English Brekkie.
That's at heybridge basin isn't it ?
Was only thinking about going as far as Maldon Prom.
What's another 3 miles each way ? Though having to go up Fullbridge on the way home may put me off.

That's the one. Flat as a pancake excepts that to get back from there you would have to do that naughty little climb through Maldon, Market Hill.

Thanks everyone.
bet it buckets down now !
Remember your skin is waterproof.

The Old Ship gets my vote. Excellent fish and chips and a pint of the black stuff.

Blimey I am talking myself in to the 100+ mile round trip now. I knew I should not come on this site. ;0)

I can only get out on the bike on a Sunday morning, and the last few rides have been building up , the last one was 46 miles in 3.06

Well Mrs FS has announced she is away early next month, so I have a whole weekend on my own.
Saturdays sorted, but I fancy a bit of a trip on Sunday. Now I don't know whether I am up to it, but I quite like the idea of a bimble up to Maldon (I am in Southend) A coffee stop and a cake then home. Reckon its going to be 35 each way, keeping off the main roads.
Is this feasible (with sufficient fluid, fuel and bum cream)
The problem is there are no bale out options on the route and the "come and get me dear" option isn't available either.
Mind you it will probably rain anyway....
Think bigger.

A weekend hall pass suggests a two day trip to Bruges!!!

Also, there is always a bail out option...trains, taxis etc.

Have fun.

Go for it :bicycle:
Enjoy

@Firestorm did you do this ride - I only ask because last week I led a ride out to Maldon Prom Saturday morning and we are doing another one tomorrow (Saturday 18th), leaving from near Rayleigh round trip circa 35 miles. There will be people from Leigh on sea/Southend on Sea way attending also

Weather forecast looks ok for you on Sunday. It's going to rain but in the small hours of Monday morning. You'll be back by then, right?
Take jelly babies for emergency sugar (or just a nice taste), pace yourself and take it steady. Don't be afraid to stop and look at the view (that's what I tell myself half way up a hill, or just anywhere if I need a bit of a rest), your backside will thank you.
Have a lovely cafe stop at Malden. Enjoy
