I think it was Jasper Carrot who asked in one of his shows or it may have been somebody on one of the BBC's angry old women/men programmes who said “who's the real saddos, the people doing something or the teenagers sitting in McD’s on a Saturday afternoon, looking out the window at people passing by and saying “He’s/She’s sad””?

Not that I have come close (yet) to the distances some of you guys do but on my 50 and 70 milers I much prefer to ride solo. Then again I have always been a bit of a loaner.

Your lad's right. You're the equivalent of a geek. Not that it matters a toss what others think. Do what you want.

Cheers for that. I agree 100% with you and you have summed up my reasoning perfectly.

Nothing wrong in that, I ride on my own all the time near enough. I think it is ideal when you start doing long distance in a day. You are only accountable to yourself and you can do what you want.

In one! As a self confessed geek  and 100% social misfit, I have gotten well used to my own company and do enjoy big solo rides.

Odd thing is, I ride with a cycle club here in France and there are a few bods that some would put in the 'bit odd' category (and I'm no doubt one of them!) .... just as it was in the UK! I just reckon there's something about cycling that does attract the loner!
