Ok, be soon time to think about autumn and winter commuting and what I do not have in my armoury is decent jacket. Thus been looking at the Altura Nevis jacket which is in the EBC sale just now and also possibly the Night Vision although I will be putting vouchers to that, so over all outlay is the same. What is the verdict on those two or is the better at that price point??

night vision

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
Ive had two night vision jackets. one black one hi vis. Both had issues with zips locking up and the velcro wrist fasteners coming off because of poor stiching.
they are warm, and its easy to sweat in them, even with vents open....that said they are easy to see at night, and wayer proof...

Better jacket. Haven't had any issues. Washed and that. Stick with endura and forget the alt stuff.

I had a Nevis - it was utter crap. Very poorly made (sleeves were different sizes) and the membrane delaminated within a few months of light usage. I wouldn't touch Altura again on the strength of this experience

I have an Altura jacket, which I wear as an "off bike" jacket as I found it was not that great as an "on bike" option as it was too hot for riding in warm or moderate temperatures with drizzle and not up to the task of extreme wet/cold weather.

For "on bike" I wear Endura as I have always found them much better in terms of functionality. My fave Endura jacket is no longer made so I can't link to it (I've had it for years and it is as good today as it was when I first bought it) but have a look at them as I really do think they are better than Altura options.

Altura Night Vision. Have both hi-vis and Black Evo version. Can't fault them. Not tried any of the Endura outer jackets so can't compare. Never felt overly hot in Night Vision either.

I have had a night vision for 3 years, never had a problem, just re proofed it for the first time. As for sweating i only use it in winter. I use a soft shell until autumn if it rains.

Only negative about the Altura ranges is the very large cuffs. I have a Evo Night vision and it is not the most comfortable jacket I have ever worn. Even the lower range ones that I tried in-store felt uncomfortable.

I just got myself a Pearl Izumi Barrier elite jacket in screaming yellow from Evans. With the torrential rain this morning it got a baptism of fire and it passed.

Kept me dry, warm but I did NOT overheat at all. It packs down quite small and is VERY noticeable plus it was very comfortable to wear

Altura Crosslite for me. It's not rainproof, good for moderate to heavy showers. My commute is about 45 mins and its fine but I doubt it would be appropriate for long days in the saddle.

It's lightweight, wind resistant has a breathable quality.

Would I purchase another one. No, I would be looking towards something with with goretex or eVent materials.

Past two winters I've been more than happy with my Gore Phantom. Technically it's a soft-shell windstopper - not a water proof. But I've used it in all weathers, it's shower-resistant enough and breathability is good. I only ever need a jersey and base layer under it. Wiggle have it slightly over budget at £104 but when I got mine I shopped around - can't remember where - and found it for £95. Might have been Alpine Bikes.
