Probably doesn't answer your question, but I read some negative reviews about the zips, so I visited a LBS and checked them out. Alturas (certainly when I looked at them last autumn) used an unbranded zip. They did look pretty flimsy.

So I got the Endura equivalent (Gridlock). Endura use one YKK's heavier duty zips which I feel more comfortable with.

I've got the evo and having compared notes with someone who went for the cheaper version, I'd say my money was very well spent. He struggled with boil-in-the-bag syndrome on all but the coldest of days.

I've had both and found them both fine. The zip did one on one of the original Night Vision ones but after a reasonable amount of wear - it also faded. The second Night Vision is fine ... if not quite so waterproof anymore and the 3rd is an Evo which I like (mainly for the colour and the pockets). I'm going to treat myself to a new one probably in the Autumn.

I seem to be quite heavy in my wearing of them - mainly as I probably wear them a lot more than some other people do - daily in winter and fairly often in summer. I figure that a new coat every couple of years is easily compensated for by the lack of bus fares or petrol for the car.

I have had both as well. The zips have been a problem with Altura jackerts in the past, but the ones in the evo are much better and I have had no problems with mine. I have worn it pretty much every day through the winter. It is a much better jacket all round.

The zip on my Altura Night Vision broke so I did without for a while, but eventually went for the woman's Altura Sirius. On sale at Evans making it cheaper than the Evo, that might be a consideration for you? Apart from wishing I'd bought the smaller size, I like it a lot more than I did the NV, much more breathable.

A good tip for people. Niht Vision jackets do come up on the large side in fitting.
