Just phoned shop - already got one put by for me to pick up and exchange - if it happens again, I will be getting a refund and purchasing something else.

Real shame as it fits nice and feels good on...

I've had mine a year without problems other than some small bits of reflective stuff peeling off, no zip problems at all.

My chest pocket zip has disintegrated. the main zip is ok at the moment but occasionally gets stuck. It's a year old now. Wiggle said to send it in and they would asses if they can repalce the jacket...I havent done so yet only because it's raining.

main zip fob snapped, otherwise its fine although I've not worn it much as it's so bloody warm even with the pit zips undone

I wore it for a week or so when it was near freezing, it worked fine then over a short sleeve jersey, that's how warm

it certainly is very very visible after dark though

I suspect the quality of Altura's jackets - or at least their zips - is going downhill.

I got my teenage son a Night Vision jacket a few years ago which he wears all the time, but looks after badly (i.e. not at all), and it is still going strong.

However there have been numerous reports of broken zips from people who have purchased more recently.

devils advocate - bought mine new along with bike etc when i started cycling about 3 months ago. Havent had any problems. Might as well review it while i'm here ;

comfortable, actually functions as a waterproof (a much misused term). very good visibility. Very warm considering how thin it is. In fact i've discovered on these colder nights i can get away with just a base layer or thin shortsleeve + armwarmers (could probably do without these under this jacket but i'm new to this so still experimenting with warmth vs overheating) under this jacket.

this is definately a winter / night / cold weather jacket - my only bad experience was the penrith MTB ride when i misjudged how warm it was and i started to overheat - thats inexperience though, not a fault of the jacket.

Hi, I'd like to hijack this thread as I am in the market for a waterproof jacket and am planning to commute (7 miles each way) through hell and high water. I don't really want to spend loads. What are your thoughts on this...

False economy?

I love the jacket, just really disappointed that the zip is coming away from the coat after just 3 weeks sporadic use.

I am due to exchange it for a new one on Saturday so hopefully the new one will be OK - I really hope so as I am pleased with it as a jacket.

Exchanged today...the sales guy looked a little preturbed when he realised I'd been sold it at a sale price when in fact it wasn't supposed to have been in the sale!!! It seems I got a good deal (as long as the flippin thing doesn't fall apart again!!!)

I love mine, bought the XXL so its a bit of a tent so I can get other layers under it, love the in your face visibility ( I went for the bright yellow), seems ok after a month, now covered in double hard looking mud splats.

Got to say I like mine, only had it a week so too early to say if it is gonna fall apart, but for night riding it is just the thing.
