I was thinking of getting an Altura jacket for my OH for Christmas.

He's a 42" chest and is quite hunky and broad across the shoulders.

Do you cycle chat hunks think I'll be ok ordering large? Or should I go for XL?

Thanks chaps.

Neither. Go for a medium.
Nightvision Evo jackets come up quite large for their sizing.
I usually wear large jacket sizes, but had to go with a medium Evo.

Best thing is to try one on if you/he can.

They're huge on the body and short on the arms. A small is really really loose around my chest and waist, but the arms are too short for me. I have a 37" chest and regular length arms (or so I thought, but Altura seem to disagree).

I have a 42" chest and an XL sized Night Vision Evo. The body is a little baggy, but the arms are short. Wherever you get it from, keep the receipt in case you need to exchange it.

See my photo..If your OH is built anything like me then get him a large. That'll be plenty big enough - even allowing for extra layers underneath in winter. I'm 42" chest, 31" waist. Only 5' 6" tall though!

Added later! Forgot to mention. I have and use that exact jacket too.

An eleven inch drop from chest to waist is most impressive. I bet you can't buy a suit off the peg!

No - have to buy separate jackets and trousers OR go "made to measure". I believe the average difference is between 6-8 inches.

Having said that the average would include "couch potatoes". I wouldn't imagine my difference is overly impressive if the average was only based on those with a reasonably active lifestyle.

In case it helps, I am 5' 9" with a 36" waist and normal length arms.

Thanks for the info fellas.

I thought I'd ask as I have the women's version which is also generously sized IMO.

He usually takes an XL in tops on account of his broad shoulders, sounds like a large should do nicely in this case.

I have a Nightvision Evo size L - I'm 42" chest, broad-shouldered and when it comes to jackets it's often a toss-up between XL and L. After trying on both I went with the L and I've been perfectly happy with it. I tend to like things slightly on the loose side and hate stuff that is too tight but the Evo is fine.
