Hello
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I have utilised the search function but found nothing conclusive. A bike shop has offered a deal on the new Genesis Equilibrium disc 20, searching I see they crop up quiet alot so must be a popular choice bike. I have ridden one & know my frame size so no need to test ride. What I am interested in is alternatives that I can research, go try and compare. Price wise I am looking around the 1300 mark as thats the offer from the bike dealer so wanting to know is there anything better at that price point ? Are the 20's a good deal at that price ?
Full hydraulic brakes
Shimano 105
725 steel frame
I do like steel but alterantives can be any material. I ride all year when I can

I don't think you can buy much better at the price in steel. If materials are not an issue and depending where you live alternatives are stuff from Planet X and stuff from the Jamis range, sold by Evans

I presumed the lack of answers was due to lack of interest in the subject and the quality of the bike

Meh, either way!

I've yet to meet an unhappy EQ owner - and considering they're not the "obvious" choice I do see a surprising amount of them around the NW.

Nope, I'm really happy with my 'custom' eq 20

If buying a steel disc braked bike, I'd probably go custom again, a Fratello equipped with SRAM (don't do Shimano) and handbuilts from the lovely chaps at Condor...need significantly more than £1300 though...

Actually no, I'd get fatbirds to build me something in Ti...

Hhmmm £1800 for a Condor build without full hydraulics. Beautiful bikes but the whole buying custom is spoilt as I do not live in London so would not benefit from a bike fit and picking custom paint scheme etc. All would be done over the phone so lessening the special custom build feel. Travelling down to London just increases cost.
To be honest as nice as they are if I wanted a custom build I would choose a british frame builder & not one that has dedaccia build it in Italy.

Glad a few people rate the equilibriums.

There's a condor dealer in York I believe

And elsewhere https://www.condorcycles.com/pages/stockists

Yes I believe there is but not sure of full extent of the service they offer. Will look into that just out of interest but out of my price range this time

Hydraulic disc brakes are currently no use to me as the hood shape means I can't brake effectively due to the size of my hands, and you can't add cross levers which I want on a everyday bike. Quite happy with rim brakes anyhow as I don't choose to ride in the rain!

Just seen that in the link. They all seem to stock framesets but thst suggest no custom build ?
I'm not sure London custom build the frames unless you have really deep pockets, you can simply fully choose the spec. Which is what I did with my equilbrium (a friend put it all together for me)
