If the hoods are the right shapeyup, cross top levers might be great but assuming your bike set up / fit ok then you should be able to use them comfortably without resorting to cross tops.

works both ways i found steering odd on a flat bar when i rode one.Something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet is that the handlebar on a road bike is narrower which means you may find the steering feels twitchy at first compared to your current bike.
Again it's something you'll get used to and will feel completely natural after a few rides.

Well yes but a newbie may not know what suits and a groupset isn't cheapcan if you change groupset
