OK im looking to upgrade my SCR3 next spring, due to the endlist problems Ive had with it - just want something a bit lighter/better groupset/flasher I guess.

Main mistake I made with the SCR3 was ordering online, so I couldnt really go back to the manufacturer and try to get money back when things go wrong - apparently Giant are a biatch to get hold of/money out of.

So my next bike Im gonna learn from my mistakes and buy from a shop. One of my lbs's is a specialized dealer, and I was looking at the allez elite 09 model. It seems to be a nice bike for my price range, with this years model having a 105 groupset compared to the tiagra(?) of last years model.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this model, or any others I should be considering in the sub 1000 price range? I know the focus bikes on wiggle look good but I dont want to go down the route of an online dealer.

Heres a link... http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?sid=09Allez&eid=115

Thanks!

I have the 2007 model & it's been fine. No mechanical probs in the first two years, but just had the rear wheel bearings & cones replaced & changed the BB too. BUt that could be caused by my weight which was 18st+ but now down to about 16st so hopefully wont put the bike under as much strain ;)

Daft question...are you any good with a spanner ? Do you maintain it regular ? Cos if not, that could be half the problem.

It will have certain parts that are rather cheap - e.g. BB's.....

One thing I have done with any 'off the shelf' bike (well just the one the old MTB)...is pull it to bits and regrease it and stick it back together....

Honestly I keep it it good condition, usually gets a good clean down once a week when weathers bad and frequent lubes. I know I could go and uprgrade all the little cheap bits on it like cranks, breaks, bb etc but if I svae that money, hold on through the winter and then come the spring get a new bike.

How much dya reckon Id get for it on ebay?
