I felt for Cav too!! Never mind, when he wins the tour he'll be Sir Cav. In the meantime, he has the honour of knowing our Corsa is called Cav in his honour.

you'll have to hope that non-cyclists don't think it's because you can't spell chav…

Doubt it, the British public and those that dole out gongs don't 'get' stage racing, much less the even more obscure classification jerseys.

I'd prefer these honours to be given out after retirement but when all's said and done they're meaningless baubles anyway. Like pillocks who put BSc, MA, etc after their names in private correspondence.

Meaningless? I do not put mine, but I see nothing wrong with putting your educational quals after your name.

Good call about Cavendish. He'll be f'ing livid, and who can blame him? It's enough to make him turn his back on British cycling completely.

I refer you to the post on the previous thread. Chris Hoy's Unionism, and his closeness with a certain Gordon Brown might have some bearing. My money's on an announcement of a velodrome in Fife.

Exactly.

With regard to the Sports Personality of the Year award - the cycling media took a pragmatic approach and went for Hoy. They knew full well Scotland would only vote for him and to put forward any of the other equally worthy contenders would only split the vote. Cav, Wiggo and especially Cooke were just as valid a choice.
