And do not forget the paralympians!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/disability_sport/7805260.stm

"Cyclists Darren Kenny, Sarah Storey, Aileen McGlynn and Ellen Hunter and swimmer Sascha Kindred are named OBEs"

"MBEs go to cyclists Mark Bristow, Jody Cundy, Anthony Kappes, Barney Storey, Simon Richardson and David Stone"

I am *particularly* chuffed as Simon is a thoroughly lovely chappie (as is his wife a lovely chappette) and he deserves the honour.

Great news for Hoy and I was also pleased to see all the other cyclists get an MBE as well. It has been a good year for British cyclists and I hope that soon more will follow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice to cycling cleaning up the awards again

personally i would have given hoy the cbe along with wiggins, saving the knighthoods for retirement. and what about cav? four wins in one tour is unprecedented for a brit…

still, well done to all of them, olympians and paralympians alike.

Sorry, but they get handed out like nobodies business now!
Maybe they'd be deserved if they prove themselves in the next Olympics, but right now a lot of them are one-time-charlies.

ah, but it's not just the olympic success that is recognised. most of the track cyclists who won at the olympics are also (multiple) world champions. hoy and wiggins were also gold medallists in athens 2004.

Which is EXACTLY why Hoy deserves his. The extreme pain he puts himself through during training has to be seen to be believed and he's doing this week in, week out and it's just brilliant that we can bask in his efforts when he brings home the bacon like he does. You'd have to be especially tight of human decency to deny Hoy his.

I'm not denying Hoy anything. He's proved himself multiple times, and maybe some others too.
But there are those that have won their first bronze/silver/gold and they all seem to get MBEs/CBEs/whatever. They don't deserve it yet at all!

Multiple golds at multiple olympics. Nothing less!

I refer you to the post on the previous thread. Chris Hoy's Unionism, and his closeness with a certain Gordon Brown might have some bearing. My money's on an announcement of a velodrome in Fife.

I'd prefer these honours to be given out after retirement but when all's said and done they're meaningless baubles anyway. Like pillocks who put BSc, MA, etc after their names in private correspondence.
