Now, the "likes" don't self-cancel when you go to the alerts page, and I have to click through every one in order to turn off the notifications.

Ah, the "likes" don't automatically mark as "read" when you go to the alerts page, and so I have to do it manually.

So still mice in the machinery somewhere.

Definitely looks like it.

Mine is fine now, so hopefully whatever is going on is resolved soon.

Same for me though the "mark read" button at the bottom does clear them all.

I'll keep it in mind - the alerts seem to be behaving themselves at the moment, but nice to know there's a fix lurking in the small print.

That's exactly it. Neither do I.

Neither do I. My guess is there has been some small update which has caused this to happen by default.
