Not sure if this has been posted here, but just been and bought cycling shoes for £19.99 (with SPD) They are cheap looking but for the purpose of pushing pedals they look great.

Spoke reflectors, and armbands, flashy and reflective ones too.

So that's over £100 I've spent on the commute I need to make this pay for itself now!! haha

Any idea how much your commute via your old method cost. And did you make your old way pay for itself? We often justify our spending on the bike as if it has to pay for itself, without doing the same to the previous method which was probably all money down the drain! (Now I ought to go to Aldi and see what is left after the mad frenzy of the first day!)

Will take me 12 months of commuting to pay for my bike. But then you cannot put a price on the 50 miles a week will help my health!!

well at 30mpg thats 80 gallons at whatever that is these day about £6 thats upto £470
Thats not to say thats your cost, but possible savings

I drive a fairly big diesel (2.0) so it's probably not going to be much more than 40 in reality around town

Even if it costs you £130 a month (due to additional outlay on kit) your still getting your daily workout! Just make sure your not paying for a gym membership and your laughing.

What are the shoes like? Did you go for white or brown ones?

Shoes are not bad but slippery without clips. I need new pedals now.

They are comfy though. Brown I wwnt for

What clips come with them? I've never tried clipped in.
Do you have to turn the clip over as the pair I looked at had smooth bottoms with some allen bolts in?
I've got to go and find an aldi with stock still if I do go for them now!

The cleats come with the pedals, undo the two bolts and a small piece will be removed (usually) the cleats then go in there.

There are two bolts on the bottom of these trainers too. I've left them as is as I don't have clips in my pedals. They are at least narrower than my other trainers so it's an improvement as is.
