Got a couple of the saddlebags with tools in from my local Aldi.
The spanners, tyre levers, glueless patches and a small multitool fit straight into the frame of my Brommie, thus saving me over £40 on the Brompton Toolkit

Got a cracking shower-proof fold-away-to-nothing jacket, a pair of socks, front and back lights and some sunglasses for about thripence ape knee. I think the girl on the till forgot to price some of them but discretion proved stronger so I said nowt lest it reveal her as being new and making a mistake. Well you would, wouldn't you?

I paid a visit to Aldi at Wallsend this morning to take advantage of their cycle gear special...

I got there not long before opening to find a queue of sorts, and when the doors opened, to a mad rush.
I picked up a basket and headed for the specials area to find a melee three deep with people just reaching through and grabbing three or four of the items they were after - only to find they eventually literally threw their unwanted sizes back!.

I eventually - and respectfully- got to the baskets sideways and selected the items I wanted, but during the minute or two in that melee, I had two different people elbowing me out of the way, one guy reaching past my leg to get a top and some cheeky bar-steward going to take the precision oil pen out of my basket - until I gave him a look telling him that I would inject it up his jacksy if he did.

Of all my visits for the cycling specials, I have never experienced this.

It was madness and probably not far off some coming to blows.

People never seem to stop amazing me.

MMMmm I hear what you're saying. I also went this morning and I had to battle my way through, I had to step on an old lady and elbow a young boy in the face BUT I got my cycling top ;)

Should've got the red potatoes from Aldi, they make lovely roasties when you do them in goose fat.

Gonna have to give it a proper reccy later in the week, seems like some bargains to be had and yes I did like the store and not as many people as our Asda store........or my first visit to an Aldi which now looks like it was situated in a shed compared to the one we visited today.

Quite a lot of stuff incl mitt left in Hemel store. Pick up a few things incl there casual shorts which look ok for the commute.

Is there a bloke in a top hat stood on the door?

That must be Marmion, looking dapper, even though he wasn't able to find a bowler hat.

I went to the Maidstone Aldi this morning. I got there just after 10 and the car park was already full. Had to fight my way through the crowd to get to the stuff. Got a nice jacket with removable sleeves and a couple of jerseys. Also got a saddlebag. All in all I was pleased with the stuff I got.

Pretty much the same as the Aldi in Pelaw ... mad rush even at 12 noon too ..lots of stuff unpaired (tried fell off and dumped) I still managed three pairs of socks, some spare gloves and a few oil pens .. I gave up on trying for a few tops as they were all over the place :headshake:

Went to our Aldi in Ramsgate today it was busy but not for the cycling stuff although I think there was a rush on earlier in the morning as the soft shell jackets I wanted had all gone  any way I bought some mitts and got a cycle computer for my eldest step daughter's road bike.

I popped into Prestatyn's Aldi about 11.30. Fair few cyclists milling about looking at the gear. I was trying on shoes with my son (for him) and a chap came over and had a chat. I said they were worth the money for my lad as his feet are growing, but I'd not be paying the price I pay for shoes for him. The chap had picked up a pair, then popped his foot forward, hey presto a pair from last year. He said he had loads of cycling shoes. Turns out he has lots and lots of bikes too, as I overheard him chatting to another cyclist. Sounds like none of them were out and out road bikes, just hybrids/get me about bikes.

No scrum though.

Good heavens! Haven't people got anything better to do than fight over cheap cycling kit? I wonder how many of them actually ride.

I never go in on the first day. There's usually stuff left and no fighting. One of the advantages of being a skinny woman is that there's not a huge demand for the clothing. Sometimes I can get it reduced after it's lain about for a few weeks
