Age of my Rudge. Can anyone help with the place and age of my Rudge please. 490713 R.

Nothing really. It was the hub on the bike when I bought it. I just thought that it's possible it's not the original hub.
Its a 3 speed changer so it looks like it's right.
Could the bike be the same age as the hub?

Your bike was made in 1956:

Somebody on another forum is trying to date a Raleigh-built Rudge. The only number they can find on the frame is 490713 R. It's got a 1956 AW hub but that may not be original. Does anybody have any ideas please?

I already have this one logged in my list. The hub date is contemporary with the frame number.
It's actually the last R for Rudge serial I've got. 1956 was the year that Raleigh revamped their entire frame number system, and under the new system Rudge models had a B suffix.
