Just as air density decreases with altitude it increases with a drop in temperature. That is why when I dress for a 15 degree Fahreheit ride with enough clothing to keep warm I figure I am considerably larger and the air is 25% denser. This must be the sole reason my rides are 3mph slower....it can't be the motor, can it. I use an upright posture going down long grades to slow down so as to avoid overheating the rims with overtaking. Air drag is a significant factor the faster you go, but I do wonder if jeans and street shoes may not be as effective as cycling clothes and clippers shoes and pedals.
