It seems wasteful, but if I get a puncture I just put a new one in and rarely get round to fixing the old one. At £2 a time and with so few punctures, hardly seems worth the hassle to fix them.
Because you love waste and hate the environment? I just hope you don't throw your discarded tubes over people's garden fences, as many do.

I personally either take them home or bin en route. I never seem to puncture in a way that is repairable, big or multiple snakebite holes.

Half-odds tubes seem OK (it's the shop that's usually the problem IMO). Schwalbe are also good.

I had a few Continentals with loose valve cores this year (and online discussions suggest I wasn't the only one) which isn't a hard problem to fix - as long as you notice and tighten them before you're stopped at the roadside with no core tool

I had the same problem too with the Continental tube I have in the back wheel. Easy fix though ,,,,, even for me !

I happily use Halfords inner tubes with no problems on both my road and MTB and have never had a mechanical failure such as a valve parting. I spend the money on the tyre since the puncture protection in products like the conti gator skins or Schwalbe Durano is what really prevents punctures. Once a thorn is though the tread no inner tube is going to survive.

As above, cheap tubes are fine. My only advice is to test the valve in your spare tube before setting off by pumping a bit of air into the tube and then deflating it again. Valves can be faulty. Maybe more expensive tubes have more reliable valves but by testing your spare you can avoid this issue entirely Other than that, I reckon all tubes are basically the same
