Advice on a budget hybrid

After researching some possible hybrids I have come up with 2

• Giant escape 3
• Voodoo marasa

I know with a budget of around £250-300 I won't get anything special, but as i rarely went out on my old £950 specialized I can't justify spending any more. I understand halfords isn't perhaps the most reputable place to buy from and that it can be hit and miss, but I also wonder whether it is worth going for the voodoo over the giant as it seems to be better specced. I will be doing light trails but mostly road

If these are front suspension bikes, And you'll be riding roads, check whether the suspension can be locked

A carrera subway might be a good option, rugged, rigid fork, solid! On a bargain deal too at mo

Are you fixed to a maximum of £300 ?
Raleigh's Strada range seems to be a good bet for hybrids.
Could be a tad dearer if you want the lockout suspension though.
As ever,solid bikes and just a thought.
