Advice needed on shoes and pedals?

just got my first road bike and thinking of going clipless.

On a tight budget but after searching the net have been looking at the shimano pd-5700 105 spd-sl road pedals and these shoes http://www.cyclesurgery.com/special...ed/bikes-components-bikewear/fcp-product/4168.
i just go on my bike for fitness and leisure but at weekends will be looking at longer rides 25 miles+and a couple of charity rides including the london to southend.

i won't be using the bike for commuting or popping down the shops so i don't think i would need the clipless/flat pedal combination.

Any advice would be more than helpful.

Yeah go the full hog I went head first with spd-sl and got R077 shoes from Evans on price match. So go for it..I think that sums it up for you :bravo:

You might want to consider double sided pedals such as Shimano M520.

The 5700 are a single sided road specific pedal which is great for some serious(ish) road riding but they are generally less user friendly than doubled sided pedals for a beginner. As you also say 'longer 25+ mile rides' I get the impression double sided would be better. I would consider 150 miles to be a longer ride!

The link doesn't work either:ohmy:

Cheers for the advice tund :thanks:

They certainly get very good reviews and I very well may invest in a pair.

Btw any advice on some decent shoes to go with them?

150 miles? I wouldn't be home for tea ^_^
