Advice for Road Bike Purchase

I bought my Specialized Allez 2009 Triple back in October and have done almost 2000 miles on it. It is fantastic and I would really recommend it. I had a look at a trek, giant and bianchi but they didn't have quite as good specs. The other thing is the frame is so beautiful with the curved top tube and the matt black finish. I love it and it whizzes on the road too.

Many thanks for all your honest advice. I think the over-riding opinion that I get from your replies is that you just can't pick a road bike in your price range and hope its the right one for you. I'm off to my local bike specialist to try a few out for size before parting with my money. Whatever choice i make I'm looking forward to clocking up many miles on two wheels in the country.
