Advice for newbies to sportives

I remember my first sportive. I had only ever ridden on my own so was filled with trepidation. What I noticed right from the off was that everyone was very friendly and just out to enjoy themselves. And just like this forum everyone I encountered whilst riding was willing to answer any questions I had. I was hooked.

One thing to remember. When passing other riders you must always look like you're not trying. . .especially on hills.

Maybe an odd request, but can anyone post a link of results from a sportive if they get published, im interested to see the range of times

If you are following someone as you go passed a gate near a farmers field always keep your mouth closed.

You never know what might get thrown up off someones tyre!

Sound advice...and I'd hazard a guess, born out of experience?
