Advice for flat pedals for new bike.

As my favourite Superstar Nanos are no longer made (and would have been out of your price bracket) I tried a pair of these as I prefer metal over plastic for my flat pedals. Decent larger sized platform for my size 10 feet in 5Ten shoes, but the pins are quite pronounced so best used with thicker soled shoes.

I use clipless on my road bike but on my new hybrid I wanted to have the option to ride with trainers so I could use it for the gym etc so I bought these: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/look-trail-grip-flat-pedals
They do not slip even in the wet.

My Specialized Fatboy came with plastic pedals, with ball bearings. Nearly six years later, and 11,700 miles on the bike, the pedals are great. My feet have never slipped off them even when wet. They have small, very sharp conical spikes on them, probably no more than about 1/8" tall. I wear sneakers when I ride and the soft rubber soles and conical spikes work well together. I wouldn't want anything more aggressive after I found out the damage they can do to a bare shin. I was coming to a stop at a traffic light, when a hard gust of wind blew from the side. I had to put my foot down very quickly but as I did, my shin ran down the pedal and caused some pretty bad gouges.

So it depends on what kind of riding you do. I'm not into buying expensive pedals for the sake of having them. Don't think that all plastic pedals are bad.
